Signs and Symptoms of Localized Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer does not cause symptoms in early stages; only screening enables an early diagnosis. In most cases, the diagnosis of prostate cancer is preceeded by a suspicious rectal examination or increased and rising PSA concentration.
Signs and Symptoms of Advanced Prostate Cancer
- Urinary retention (increase of tumor volume in the prostate)
- Hematuria (tumor lysis, neovascularization)
- Bone pain due to bone metastases.
- Urinary incontinence (infiltration of the sphincter)
- Erectile dysfunction (infiltration of the cavernous nerve)
- Spinal cord lesions (bone metastases of the spine)
- Bleeding diathesis (hyperfibrinolysis and disseminated intravascular coagulation)
- Flank pain and renal failure (Hydronephrosis with retroperitoneal metastases or subtrigonal infiltration)
